Water for Our Future

Reliable, Sustainable Water Supplies for Placer County

Reliable water shows up every time a tap turns on, a business opens its doors, or a family plans for the future. That reliability is built through careful planning, modern infrastructure, and a dedicated team working behind the scenes every day.

"Water for Our Future" reflects PCWA’s commitment to providing a reliable, sustainable water supply for Placer County—today and as the region continues to grow.

PCWA’s work is part of a broader regional effort to plan for growth and changing conditions. Learn how local water providers are working together to support water reliability at PlacerWaterFuture.com.

Planning for Growth

PCWA’s high-priority water rights in the American River combined with long-term planning and regional coordination position the agency to serve existing and planned residential and business growth.

While PCWA doesn't have a role in approving or denying new development, our role lies in making sure there's enough water to support planned growth and delivering it where it's needed. This includes expanding infrastructure, strengthening supply reliability, and coordinating with regional partners to support long-term community needs.

Investing in Infrastructure

To fulfill this commitment, we're investing in long-term infrastructure projects like the Ophir Project. This initiative will enhance our treatment capacity and our pipeline network to deliver treated water to homes and businesses in the western part of the county. Scheduled to begin construction of a new water treatment plant in 2025, the Ophir Project demonstrates our dedication to meeting evolving community needs.

The RiverArc Project is another cornerstone water reliability project, essential to enhancing our water portfolio to address the projected impacts of climate change. It improves our region's water supply reliability by better balancing supplies from its two major surface water sources—reducing pressure off the American River and harnessing the opportunities from the much larger Sacramento River.

Stewardship and Community

At PCWA, stewardship is at the core of everything we do.

We champion the health of our watershed and water supply reliability through forestry management initiatives that mitigate wildfire risks and safeguard our water sources. Additionally, we actively engage the community through educational programs and water efficiency initiatives, empowering customers to contribute to a sustainable, water-wise Placer County. Our rebate programs support you in implementing water-wise practices at home and work, demonstrating our commitment to promoting sustainable water use and resilience in our community.

The People Behind Reliable Water

Reliable water service depends on more than infrastructure—it depends on people.

PCWA staff operate treatment facilities, maintain pipelines, monitor water quality, and plan for future needs. Their work happens every day, often out of sight, but it is essential to keeping water flowing safely and reliably across Placer County.
